Beijing Hutong

Beijing, as the capital city of China has been rapidly growing (since the reforms of 1978)  into a modern and dynamic metropolis with its skyscapers and well developed urban infrastructure.
You need to sneak behind these modern architectural wonders,  if you really want to see the rich culture and history of this city. You need to visit the Hutongs of Beijing, if you want to catch a glimpse into the city's past.
,,Hutong" means narrow alley or lane, formed by lines of siheyuan (traditional courtyard residences), where the old Beijing residents live, play, gossip, buy goods and connect. These delightful tree-lined lanes are the best representatives of the traditional Beijing life.
To fully experience the old beijingers life is to wander around the centuries-old alleyways......
